Korean pop band Super Junior has made a massive impact in the country with tickets to its upcoming concert selling like hot cakes, writes Wendy Wong.
KOREAN pop boy band sensation, Super Junior is generating a lot of interest with its upcoming concert on March 20 with more than 70 per cent of tickets snapped up since they were released recently.
“Most of their fans know the songs by heart. The music reaches out to fans from different backgrounds,” said Redstar Present’s executive director Norhasmah Naroden who represents the event promoter. The show is managed by Marctensia and Warner Music is the record label.
Super Junior will be in town as part of its Asia Tour Super Show 2. Comprising 13 members, the group is set to entertain fans at the Putra Indoor Stadium, Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur at 7pm. Regarded as the biggest boy band in the region, the group was formed in 2005 in Seoul and is often referred to as SJ or SuJu.
Super Junior has released 19 albums that include soundtracks and its music can be categorised as mainstream Korean-pop.
The group comprises members who showcase individual talents that range from vocal powerhouse to B-boy champions, actors, instrumentalists, TV show hosts and many more.
Super Junior has received major awards from international music channels like the MTV Asia Awards and China’s CCTV 2008 Entertainment Music Awards for Mainland’s Best Album and Mainland’s Most Popular Group as well as in Korea. Last year Super Junior conquered the charts with its album and single Sorry, Sorry. Due to different tier of demands, Super Junior is also further divided into sub-groups, namely Super Junior-KRY, Super Junior-M and Super Junior-Happy that caters to different languages and markets. Norhasmah said that tickets buyers from Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore also inquired about ticket availability for the show.
Norhasmah said that this was the group’s third visit to Malaysia. Super Junior recorded its music video for Dancing Out in KLCC in 2006 and attended the MTV Asia Awards in 2008.
Tickets are priced at RM138, RM238 (numbered seats) and RM458 (numbered seats and rock pit). Every purchase of two tickets will entitle fans to a limited edition giant poster (500 pieces only) while stocks last.
